Home Assistant is free, open-source software that lets compatible smart-home devices work together. Home Assistant Green is a small, ready-to-use computer that runs that software inside your home.

What “local” really means

The sensor connection, core data, and Home Assistant logic run on Green in your home. Phone delivery and access while away may still use internet services.

Home Assistant Cloud is optional

Standard phone notifications do not require the paid Cloud plan. The optional plan is the easiest supported route for secure remote access; Home Assistant itself has no required subscription.

Help with clear edges

You should know who does what.

Starter includes asynchronous email Completion Assurance for the supported plan, with no fixed reply cap. Start within 30 days. We aim to reply within two business days, but this is not a guaranteed response time. Work pauses after 14 days without a customer reply and closes after 60 days of silence. Calls, screen sharing, remote access, onsite work, and unscoped custom automation remain outside Starter.

Refunds: The full amount paid to Open Home Kits, including collected tax, is refundable on request for 14 days after paid confirmation. If an engaged buyer follows the exact supported plan and safe written path but still cannot reach the listed completion checks, Completion Assurance also refunds the Open Home Kits fee and collected tax. Hardware and other third-party charges are excluded.

Convenience, not monitoring: Sensor state and optional notifications do not guarantee detection, prevent damage, or replace security, safety, health, or emergency systems.

Before you build your mix.

Do I need a different guide for every combination?

No. The paid guide is maintained as one document. Your paid plan, frozen as purchased, appears first and identifies the exact guide sections, models, quantities, and checks that apply.

Does Open Home Kits sell the hardware?

No. You buy Green, either ZBT-2 for Zigbee or ZWA-2 for Z-Wave, and the exact devices in your plan from their sellers. The links use no affiliate tracking.

What if I want a different sensor or automation?

Put it in the Plan Builder. Starter currently supports four specific information outcomes and up to three notification-only automation instances; other sensing, life-safety visibility, equipment control, and unusual work route to Custom.

Is a water-leak sensor a monitoring service?

No. Starter helps you pair, view, and test wet/dry state and an optional convenience notification. It does not guarantee detection or property protection.
